The novel I chose to read was Treasure Island, by Robert Louis Stevenson. I'm not completely sure why I chose the novel, I just figured it would be a good adventure story, which it is so far. I didn't really know much about the novel at all, so maybe that's why I decided to read it. The beginning of the story is relatively slow, as they don't go on the actual voyage until about the start of the middle of the book. However, in the beginning, a boy named Jim Hawkins (he's telling the story) is visited in his parents' inn by who looked to be a pirate. He stays there for a while drinking, until one night he dies as he gives Jim a map to a secret island. The setting of the story seems to be 18th century England, as the technology of the time seems to fit. The story doesn't seem to go anywhere at first, and for a while I wasn't interested. But then, the story jumped into adventure, so I like it so far.
